How Do You Glorify God?

•

I began doing a discipleship group last week and one of the passages was talking about bringing glory to God. I have always wondered what that means exactly. What does it mean to glorify God? What is meant by glory and praise or to do something for the glory of God? It is all over the Bible and people say it all the time. How do you glorify God exactly?

I’m still praying and meditating on it but it came to me today. I feel like bringing glory to God means something like giving God the attention. I was at a service this morning and we were asked to just let go of the good and the bad and just focus on Jesus. I felt like it was the calling to “keep our eyes fixed on Him.” How can you glorify God? It’s beyond praise. Like many heavenly things, it’s hard to describe. Its more than praise, more than just focusing on God. It’s something like letting go of all the things that hold us hostage from Him and His love. Letting it all pass by; not holding onto the good things and trying to push away the dark things. It’s freedom.

As I closed my eyes, I felt an ascension to Jesus. It’s like I was rising up through darkness with all these words passing by me as I rose higher and higher. Fear. Anger. Bitterness. Sadness. Loneliness. Finances. Marriage. Work. Career. Friends. Worries. Negativity. Home. Parents. Doubt. Love. Joy. Peace. Gratitude. All these feelings, states of being, priorities. They all passed by me as Jesus grew brighter and closer. It was how I think glory “feels”. It feels like we are getting closer to God. Spiritually. We are giving our full selves to Him in attention in the highest sense. One definition of glory is “A condition of supreme happiness, pride, or deep gratification.” This is a state of being when we glorify God.

Nothing else matters when we keep God first place. I have to remind myself always of this. It is easy for me to get distracted and I feel like that’s when I worry, fear, go off course. “I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.” (Psalm 16:8) Glorifying God is a way to get closer to God and attain the security only He can provide. How will you glorify God?
