Memorare

In keeping with the theme from last posting about prayer, I wanted to share another prayer that I have found extremely beneficial. It’s called the Momorare and is a petition to Mary. It’s a short prayer and can be said for just about anything you want Mary’s intercession for. I use it daily but also when I feel I just need to be heard on something that is in my heart. So here it is!

Remember oh most gracious virigin Mary, than never was it known, that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help, or sought your intercession, was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly to you, o virgin of virgins, my Mother. To you I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word incarnate, despise not my petitions but hear and answer me.

There’s a lot to unpack here. We are balancing humility and bravery, reminding Mary of her past dedication and asking for more, while we also are recognizing we are in sin and needing help. We admit she is gracious and that she is deserving of praise. She is the mother of our Lord and yet we can still ask for her intercession. We are truly blessed! In the next few lines, we state that no matter the circumstance, we were answered. Anyone had come to her and was helped. No one was left unaided. This gives us the confidence, despite not being worthy of help, that we have it regardless.

That is the wonderful thing about Christianity. It’s not about being worthy or enough. We already have the love, the grace, the favor. We just need to accept it. We can say, I have the favor of Mary and I am not afraid. I know You are watching over me. I trust in your protection.

I will say we are asking for an answer but it may not be the one we want. Most often, in my experiences, God doesn’t give me the answer I want but it always works out. I hope that this prayer will give you answers and that you will feel less anxious about problems and complexities.
