Who was Joseph? I was contemplating this afternoon the sermon today. The focus was on Joseph and his faith in God. The preacher talked about how he didn’t ask questions, didn’t hesitate, and didn’t waiver in his belief in God’s word. Joseph was silent and listened. There’s so many aspects to touch on here but I wanted to use a prayer to St. Joseph as the main illustration in this post. The prayer is this.
Oh, St. Joseph, whose protection is so great, so prompt, so strong, before the throne of God, I place in you all my interests and desires. Oh, St. Joseph, do assist me by your powerful intercession, and obtain for me from your Divine Son all spiritual blessings, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. So that, having engaged here below your heavenly power,I may offer my thanksgiving and homage to the most loving of fathers. Oh, St. Joseph, I never weary contemplating you and Jesus asleep in your arms; I dare not approach while he reposes near your heart. Press him in my name and kiss his fine head for me and ask him to return the kiss when I draw my dying breath. St. Joseph, patron of departing souls – pray for me.
It recognizes God as a the ultimate provider but Joseph intercedes for us. My suspicion is because of what the Deacon was talking about this morning; unwaivering faith. The prayer also sees Joseph as a protector, possessing a close connection with Jesus. So again, we’re connected to God through prayer. We appreciate the Divine through a human father while also recognizing that God is the supreme Father, with Joseph as a wordly representation. A powerful image.
So we implore his help. One of my prayer books has a footnote; ask for whatever you want if prayed seven days in a row, it has seldom been known to fail. Jim Rohn had a quote “How to get whatever you want…Ask! That’s it!” So we do. We dare to ask God for what we want. But it has to be a powerful ask. So we can use the prayer given to us above. In life, if you want a favor done for you, one strategy is to ask someone close to the person to speak in your favor. Same idea. Ask God by asking Joseph.
I have used this prayer and found it to be true. I have had my prayers answered. So it’s no joke, this is serious business! Ask! Not in a manner of testing, for that is not faith. We want to ask knowing that God will deliver. We believe in His Word. So go ahead and ask. Ask and believe. That’s it. I believe this prayer will serve you well, as it has me.
