Accepting Your Peace

This past week and a half has been quite the adventure. My wife and I are underway with our contracts and it’s been a lot of juggling, establishing habits to make our lives easier, and letting go of control. The last ones been a big one, offering an opportunity for peace. Although this isn’t exactly straightforward, God’s been inviting us to say yes to Him and no to other things.

I think that’s a lot of what peace is. Letting go and letting God. While that can be annoying when someone says it to me, partially because it seems like a “finger wag” and also telling me something I already know. I’ve heard another saying I like; “when you work God rests and when you rest, God works.” It’s hard for you to both work at the same time. There’s just too many cooks in the kitchen. And let’s face it, God’s waaay better at solving our problems than we are! So why not let go?

We think we can do it. We don’t need the help. I’m stubborn in nature and God knows this. So it’s hard to let go. But we can’t have peace until we let go. Pretend you can only hold onto one thing at a time. We can’t pick up the peace unless we set down our control. Until we set down our pride. It’s hard for the Holy Spirit to give us one of its greatest gifts when there’s no place to put it.

So let’s continue to seek and accept the peace that’s offered to us. It’s always there. We just have to let go and let God. We have an opportunity for peace. The peace that surpassed all understanding. “And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Phil 4:7)
